Man dies after being found at bottom of Kangaroo Island cliff

A elderly man has died after apparently falling 10 metres onto rocks from a cliff on South Australia's Kangaroo Island.

Police said a member of the public at Kingscote heard cries for help from the water's edge off Chapman Terrace just before 2:00pm.

They found the 73-year-old man injured at the base of a cliff among rocks and shallow water.

Emergency crews arrived and the local man was taken to the Kingscote Hospital with the help of a local boat owner.

He died at hospital despite plans to airlift him to Adelaide for treatment.

Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
